Roadside assistance programs are available to stranded motorists
or when they face other emergencies or difficult situations.
Generally these consisting in giving you
a.An emergency Shuttle or Taxi Service.
b.An ex-gratia payment for you.
c.Pick up of your vehicle and send/toe it away
d.Help by or from service patrols of the Highway Police
However their effectiveness depends upon the following.
1.Your membership with AAA.This organisation has facilities to provide roadside assistance.
2.The conditions of your car insurance deal.
Though facilities as well as programs are available,their effectiveness in terms of timely and quick availability,the degree of their usefulness etc have not been studied very thoroughly.
Some surveys and opinion polls have been published but a consolidated report on the effectiveness of such programs throughout the nation(US) has not been published or so it would seem.
Studies in Houston,San Francisco,Colorado etc have been published,but they concentrated mostly on the effectiveness of roadside assistance provided by Highway Patrols.
One’s personal experience,judgement and evaluation may be the correct pointer in this direction.
